JACKSON HILL TIMBER FRAMES

Timber Frames

History

Timber Frame Construction has been used for over 1000 years with many examples of earlier structures still surviving today. Timber Frame structures allow for open spaces and cathedral ceilings, provide stunning architectural detail and are manufactured from sustainable materials. They are also resistant to seismic events and the heavy timbers keep their structural integrity longer than steel in a fire.

Traditional Timber Frames:

Traditional Timber Frames are self-supporting structures made of heavy posts and beams connected using mortise and tenon joinery and fastened with oak pegs.

The structural beams and hand crafted joinery remain visible, providing an impressive interior aesthetic. The buildings are typically wrapped with a variety of insulated envelopes, including regular 2” x 6” walls, Insulated concrete forms and Structural Insulated Panels.

Post and Beam Construction:

Post and beam still uses massive timbers to create open spaces, with posts and beams usually connected by speciality or custom made metal elements. Often used for more Contemporary Architectural designs.

Timber Frame Roof Systems:

As an alternative to a fully structural, self-standing Timber Frame, Jackson Hill also design and manufacture Timber Frame Roof systems. These roof systems provide for cathedral spaces with the beams and joinery on display. The vertical structural supports are hidden within the exterior walls.

Timber Frame and Commercial Buildings:

Timber Frame Structures are ideal for creating large open and flexible commercial spaces. The Exposed beams, posts, and joinery become architectural features that add warmth, natural texture, and a sense of craftsmanship, that can enhance brand identity.
